Celebrating Black History Month, the Movie Edition!
Last week, in honour of Black History Month, we shared a few podcasts that we felt challenged us to get uncomfortable and really make us think – because we know that change does not come from complacency.
This week we have a few movies we’d like to share – check out the list below (we’ve linked each film to their IMDB page, you will have to find a way to search for these titles through your streaming service of choice):
Moonlight – Directed by Barry Jenkins, Screenplay by Barry Jenkins and Story by Tarell Alvin McCraney
Malcolm X – Directed by Spike Lee
The Hate U Give – Based on the novel by Angie Thomas, Directed by George Tillman Jr.
Hidden Figures – Directed by Theodore Melfi
I Am Not Your Negro – Directed by Raoul Peck, Written by James Baldwin
Selma – Directed by Ava DuVernay
To add to the list above, Guest Blogger, Nicola Virk recently wrote a blog post on the Netflix series, “When They See Us”, created by Ava DuVernay. Check out her reflection on that series here.
Have you watched any of the movies on our list? Do you have any you feel are a must watch that we missed? Send us an email or DM on social media and let us know!
